Thumbnail image for 1235172_bee.jpg17 year old, Travis Cannon, from Denver, NC was charged last week with misdemeanor death by vehicle in an accident which killed classmate, Haley Campbell.

It has been reported by WCNC that a vehicle ahead of Cannon's had stopped abruptly to make a turn, causing a SUV to follow the same movements. Unfortunately, Cannon was forced with the split second decision of running into the SUV which was ahead of him, swerving right into a car lot or swerving left into oncoming traffic. His turn left into oncoming traffic caused a collision with a truck, killing Campbell.

Campbell's had three passengers in the vehicle at the time of the collision. Being that Campbell is only 17, he was still in possession of a North Carolina provisional license, which only allowed him to have one passenger. While it does not seem that having these additional passengers in the vehicle caused the outcome, it does appear the police are using this violation to solidify the charges. It also has been reported that none of the people in the vehicle were wearing seat belts at the time of the accident. Authorities also mentioned that speeding was not an issue in this accident, so one can only wonder is the punishment for the driver too severe being that it was the abrupt actions of those in front of him that caused him to make this tragic decision.
